Quick answer: This free tattoo font generator previews any text in 44 tattoo-ready fonts at the same time, grouped into script, gothic, serif and hand-lettered styles. Pick a font, adjust size and color, and download a transparent PNG to show your tattoo artist. It runs in your browser, with no sign-in and no watermark.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Type your text

A name, a date, a word or a short quote. Short text (1 to 4 words) reads best as a tattoo.

  2. 2

    Compare fonts

Every font updates live. Filter by script, gothic, serif or hand-lettered to narrow it down.

  3. 3

    Download the PNG

Click download on the one you like. The PNG has a transparent background, ready to print or send to your artist.

How to choose a tattoo font

Legibility comes first. Thin script fonts look elegant on screen but lines spread slightly in the skin over the years, so very fine, tightly packed letters can blur. For small tattoos on the wrist or finger, pick a font with open letters and enough space between them. Save the most ornate scripts for larger placements such as the ribs, collarbone or forearm.

Match the font to the meaning. Flowing script (like Great Vibes or Alex Brush) suits names and love quotes. Gothic and old English (like UnifrakturMaguntia) suits bold statements and family names. Typewriter and serif fonts give a clean, modern look for dates, coordinates and single words.

Take the PNG to your tattoo artist

Your artist will usually redraw the lettering by hand to fit your body and their style, but a clear reference saves time and avoids misunderstandings. Bring the exact spelling, the font name and the size you want.

Want lettering with art around it?

The AI tattoo generator can draw your words as a full design, for example "Mom" in script inside a heart with roses. Choose the Lettering style.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tattoo font generator free?+

Yes. It runs in your browser, there is no sign-in and the PNG downloads have no watermark.

What are the most popular tattoo fonts?+

Flowing scripts such as Great Vibes, Alex Brush, Parisienne and Pinyon Script are the most requested for names and quotes. Gothic and old English fonts such as UnifrakturMaguntia are popular for bold lettering, and typewriter fonts for dates and minimalist words.

Can I use these fonts for my tattoo?+

Yes. All 44 fonts are free Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License, which allows personal and commercial use, including tattoos.

Does the font look the same on skin?+

Close, but not identical. Ink spreads slightly over time, so very thin or tightly spaced letters can blur. Ask your artist to adjust the line weight and spacing for your size and placement.
